Magic Lamp
Complete Walkthrough
Welcome dear readers to Blue Moon Game’s Dress up! Magic Lamp walkthrough and review. If you’ve played the game and enjoyed it so far, you know how this works. The main character is a little girl, who gets a lectern with a book from her mom one day. The lectern and the book appear to be magical and take the child on a journey through history, from the fashion point of view.
Now, what we can conclude is that the girl’s mom, named Alison, was also a traveler apparently, but that is not important for the story. She works as a fashion supervisor, which could be connected to the overall story and could be used later in future installments of the book.
Upon opening the book, Alison’s daughter meets Isabel, a small fairy, who takes you through the ropes as a sort of a tutorial, and she remains at our side for later. Now, while the main story is about Queen Marie and it takes us to France, in the 18th century, there are different books and different stories we can explore.
This particular one is titled the Magic Lamp and it is an adaptation of the Aladin story, the well-known rags-to-riches, zero to hero, princes, and the tramp love story. Of course, it is adapted a little bit to fit the storytelling model of the game, so here the female character is the main one, and other characters are a bit different, albeit quite recognizable to all who know the original story.
Dress up! Magic Lamp storyline is one of the most popular campaigns in the ever more popular mobile game that has taken the fashion aficionados by storm. Dress Up!, or Dress Up! Time Princess as the game was previously called, has a great way of adapting pieces of popular folklore stories and history into its own gameplay mold, that is focused on the narrative and, of course, on fashion.
And, this Magic Lamp storyline is nothing else than an adaptation of the famous Aladin story, known to virtually every soul on this earth from ancient times. We’ve played the entire campaign and prepared a full walkthrough for you, complete with all choices and outfits used, while on this page you can read our review of the overall story and its elements.
Gameplay
Magic Lamp has some different things that it brings compared to other stories
First of all, Magic Lamp has some different things that it brings compared to other stories and it regards the gameplay. Don’t get me wrong, it is the same as always, you tap through the dialogue and choose your suits. But, contrary to other stories, this story has many, many more choices per stage.
And, the choices are rarely ever limited to two branching paths. Right at the beginning of the story, stages will start presenting the player with 3-choice branching paths and even quiz questions. There will be a point in the story where players will be asked questions and be given three or more different choices to guess the right one, solve puzzles, and similar things. Again, there are such things in some of the other stories, but nowhere as much as here.
The story (Spoiler Free)
…it is an adaptation of the Aladin story, the well-known rags-to-riches, zero to hero, princes and the tramp love story.
The initial plot here is the same as with all the other books. Our main character, Alison, gets a lectern with a book from her mom one day. The lectern and the book appear to be magical and take the child on a journey through history, from the fashion point of view.
This particular one is titled the Magic Lamp and it is an adaptation of the Aladin story, the well-known rags-to-riches, zero to hero, princes and the tramp love story. Now, of course, the story has some clever adaptation, lots of it, primarily seen in the fact that the main character is a girl.
There have been lots of other creative liberties taken with the characters, but the story plot is quite traditional. An evil magician tries to use her to get the Magic Lamp from the den of Forty Thieves. She ends up buried with it, meets the genie, and so on.
There are some other characters from other Arabian folklore stories put in, like Sinbad for instance, who is a very important character in the book. Also, instead of Princess Jasmin, we have Prince Kahir, who also plays an important part in the story.
Requirements and difficulty
Magic Lamp has a 3-butterfly difficulty score…
Magic Lamp has a 3-butterfly difficulty score, which is the highest given to any story in Dress Up! It has two chapters and a total of 31 stages, all of which you need to get through scoring Perfect in the dress-up section, so you can get the blueprints and progress through.
This is not an easy task by any means. It does start slow, like in most stories, but picks up quickly, and already at about halfway through the first chapter the recipes and requirements start getting serious. Progress through Magic Lamp will be extremely challenging to free-to-play players, but it is not impossible.
Adaptation
The changes in the main and other characters are fine, but there is something else…
As mentioned, there have been many changes and adaptations to the main Aladin story so that it could fit into the game. The changes in the main and other characters are fine, but there is something else. As with other stories, the developers have really tried to bring the spirit of that time and place to the gameplay, not just in terms of clothing but also the atmosphere.
The story gets into slavery, which was a big thing back then, and how it exploited the poor and the unprotected. Parents lose their children to slavery even during the story and it is just a slight reminder of what the Earth was back then.
We don’t just go on a magic trip here where a girl uses a genie to do good. We also fight slavery and all kinds of social and economic injustices, some of which are present even in today’s society. We also meet other kinds of people who existed back then, like adventurers, navigators, and similar folk who made their living by exploring the unknown parts of the world.
All in all, we get the real spirit of some past or ancient times, mixed with magical action, and with some very clever dialogue and plots. As with other stories in Dress Up!, this is also an educational experience, like the original Aladin story is, but even more so. The developers added a lot of value in this sense and have not subtracted any of what there already was in the story, and that is the way to go.
Verdict
