As it seems there are rumors circulating about you buying the diamond necklace for 1,600,000 livres. Suffice to say, the King was shocked to hear that, but nevertheless, he wanted to listen to your side of the story. After explaining you had nothing to do with the necklace, Louis XVI asked Lafayette to investigate the matter further and find out what really happened. In the meantime, you decided to talk to the jeweler, Bohmer, and see if he had something to do with the rumors that are spreading around. The stage screen will display all the relevant information. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.
Since all of the rumors circling around are spreading like a wildfire, you decided to do something about it. You sent for the carriage, determined to leave the palace in secret with Gabrielle, and find out the truth. Still, you will need to change into something simpler, so you wouldn’t attract too much attention.
For this occasion, you should look for the clothes and accessories with Simple and Noble tags. Use to Search option to make it easier to select the appropriate outfit.
Once you are done dressing up, you will head to Bohmer’s shop. The moment he sees you enter, he will swiftly escort you to the VIP room. He’ll kindly ask what brings you to his shop. You’ll quickly get to the point and ask him about the rumors.
He’ll explain it was Madame Adelaide who sent the word that you’d changed your mind. You’ll ask him to be a bit more specific. He will then say that Adelaide told him that you liked the necklace a lot but were worried about the King finding out, so you rejected it. He’ll mention she also said you would come back to his shop.
You will once again ask him about the rumors that are spreading around. Bohmer will swear he had nothing to do with those. After all, the merchants like him never talk about their clients. You will look at Gabrielle and think for a moment. By the looks of it, Bohmer seems to be telling the truth. However, without any solid evidence, you can’t do anything about Madame Adelaide. You won’t be able to recall ever offending her and neither will Gabrielle.
Your friend will take a look at Bohmer and then whisper to you that she thinks this has something to do with the previous King. After all, it was no secret he was spending a lot on Madame Pompadour and Madame du Barry. She’ll also mention that this is one of the reasons why the royal treasury got emptied out. Because of that, Madame Adelaide looked for someone to vent her frustrations on, and you were the most suitable target.
Needless to say, the whole situation is very dire. You’ll definitely need to do something about it. Gabrielle will ask if you should report this to the King, but you’ll decide not to do so. You’ll then ask Bohmer if he would be willing to help clear your name if the rumors continue spreading around.
